"The end of the world as we know it" by Lesley Choyce
Summary The main character in the story is Carson, he is a 16-year-old boy who goes to a private school for rich and spoiled up kids and hates everything including the world, his family and himself. One day he meets this girl called Christine who is poor and lonely, her father abandoned her and her mother hardly takes care of her. They become good friends and they care for each other. Once focused on someone other than himself, Carson starts to realize that the world and everything in it isn't as bad as he thought. Deep down in his heart, under the barrier of hatred, there is a kind and responsible Carson. Together, Carson and Christine struggle to work out how to live in an imperfect world. Main theme The main theme is that even though we live in an imperfect world that is cruel and unfair, we can still find good things in this world to hold onto and to believe in if we change the way we look at things and our attitude. "The end of the world as we know it" is a great book because it relates to real life. In real life, there're people just like Carson who hates everything in the world ,but after they meet someone or something happens to them, they start to change. Besides that, the plot is very interesting and appealing. Once you start reading it, you don't want to stop, so BEWARE.
